Musical goings on from Manchester. This is a [pretty much] daily updated version of the fanzine, with news, releases, gig listings, new bands, videos, and whatever else might occur.

Lightspeed Champion Mixtape

Lightspeed Champion has three days off and is bored. So he decided to create an online mixtape, quite possibly the first of many. To change track click the right or left sides of the flash tape player below. The tracklisting is the result of him thinking of songs to fit a somewhat sunny and hazy London morning, and is as follows:
Beach Boys - Kokomo
Serge Gainsbourg - Requiem Pour Un Con
Alain Goraguer - Deshominisation (11)
Alain Goraguer - Strip Tease
Van Dyke Parks - Vine Street
Koko Taylor - I Need More And More
Bobby Womack - Across 110th Street
Neil Young - T-Bone

Some News From DIOYY (video)

Does It Offend You, Yeah? have launched a new section on their site, "which is kind of like Myspace but we won't tell you what you can and can't do (but please don't get us arrested)". You can create a profile, upload pictures and videos, make friends, post blogs, and there's a forum. The band will announce secrets through there and post blogs. If you sign up now, you get a free mp3 as a thank you, by Lilicia Libertine, but it is limited.

Meet Some Bands

Vampire Weekend are playing live and doing a signing at Zavvi in the Arndale on Sunday 1st June at 4pm.

The Futureheads will be playing live and signing copies of their new album, at HMV Market Street on Monday 26th May at 4.30pm.

Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong are offering 5 fans the chance to win guest list at a gig of their choice when they tour the UK in the Autumn (which doesn't appear to have been announced yet). Winners will also meet the band after they perform. You basically have to confirm your details on the form at Zaphod.uk.vvhp.net/re/reg.pl?id=2789-58782 so that you can be contacted if you win.

Artists With New Songs

Pull Tiger Tail have put their new single, 'Mary Jane', up at Pulltigertail.com. It plays automatically when you get there and has a more somber feel than their previous material.

The Teenagers have put 'End of the Road' up at Myspace.com/theteenagers, which will feature on their debut album.

The Futureheads' Album Leak

You can listen to The Futureheads' new album, 'This Is Not The World', in full at MTV.co.uk/channel/mtvuk/competitions/album_leak_the_futureheads. The tracks open in Windows Media Player, along with annoying little blank web pages, when you click on them and you will have to "agree that MTV may pass on your email address to Nul Records and that Nul Records may use your email address for marketing purposes and to provide you with information about any of their artists" and "that MTV may use your email address for marketing purposes and to provide you with information about MTV", unless this works: MTV.co.uk/channel/mtv2/music/15052008/419990/album_leak_the_futureheads.php
Though I'm sure it's not entirely legal for me to be passing on these shortcut links.
Anyway, it's all sounding very punchy and energetic - more like their first album, so it's certainly worth a listen.

Johnny Foreigner Afraid Of Football Fans

This might seem strange, but Johnny Foreigner have had to cancel the last date of their tour - tomorrow's show with The Mae Shi (21st May) in Manchester, simply because the date marks Manchester United's clash with Chelsea and "yr city can't be trusted not to erupt into riots".
How the two events could possibly be related is somewhat incomprehensible to me.

Jack Penate Records In His Room (video)

Jack Penate had put a song up on Myspace.com/jackpenate that he wrote last night. It's just a nice, quiet acoustic track.
He also filmed himself recording it to show you what he gets up to in his bedroom. It's not all home recordings though - he has been in proper studios for the last month or so and apparently "it's been wonderful, the new album is shaping up I'm excited and nervous".

Dirty Pretty Things Album Track Listing & Free Download

Here's the track listing for Dirty Pretty Things', as yet untitled, second album:
Buzzards And Crows
Hippy Son
Plastic Hearts
Tired Of England
Come Closer
Fault Lines
Kicks Or Consumption
Best Face
Truth Begins
Chinese Dogs
The North
Blood On My Shoes

You can get a free download of 'Hippy Son' by signing up to the mailing list at Dirtyprettythings.trinitysteetdirect.com/pages/signup.asp, or you could be cheeky and try and bypass it by going straight to U-download.co.uk/hippysson/download, but I'm not sure if it'll work. It's a zip file so you'll have to extract it and all that.
The song's all right - nothing incredible, but not bad.

Ting Tings Album Clips

You can listen to clips of 'Great DJ', 'That's Not My Name', 'Shut Up And Let Me Go', 'Be The One' and 'We Started Nothing' from The Ting Tings' debut album at Columbia.co.uk/listen/the_ting_tings/we_started_nothing_clips. So you've probably heard most of the tracks before, but it's all sounding pretty damn good.

Oh, and it seems that when the band put their first LTD 500 vinyl copies of 'That's Not My Name' out with a friend last year, she kept some vinyl back and is now trying to sell them for £60 a piece. It's nothing to do with the band, they'd probably advise against buying them.
